About
James M. Murphy is an American state legislator serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 2001. He is a Weymouth resident and a member of the Democratic Party. He attended Boston College High School, Merrimack College and Suffolk University Law School. Before election to the Massachusetts House, he served as Judicial Law Clerk to Justice Phillip Rapoza, Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court working on civil and criminal appeals. He then served an Assistant District Attorney for Suffolk County, Massachusetts prosecuting criminal cases throughout Boston. He currently represents the 4th Norfolk district-Weymouth. As State Representative, he has served in many positions throughout the legislature, serving as Vice Chairman of numerous committees, as well as Chairman of the Election Laws Committee, Chairman of the Public Service Committee, Chairman of the Steering Policy and Scheduling Committee, and currently serves as Chairman of the Financial Services Committee since 2018.
